What does organic mean?
Organic production is a food production system which blends respect for the health of the consumer, respect for the environment, animal welfare and also aims to promote rural development. Thanks to a strict regulation, quality control and exhaustive inspections, the authorities ensure that farmers do not use substances or technologies that are harmful to our health(Or where safety has not been sufficiently tested by the organic agriculture) like pesticides and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). In the production of food of animal origin, it´s required that the animals are raised under certain conditions which ensure high levels of health and wellbeing. Furthermore, the use of veterinary drugs (like antibiotics) is authorized only under prior veterinary diagnostics, and for any of these cases, the farmers have to wait twice as long as non- organic farmers before their animals can be processes for consumption.
